January 26, 2020 Game Recap

On Sunday, the level 3/4 girls played Our Lady of Angels. Kennedy Collier scored 6 points in the first half keeping the score tied going into halftime. Delilah Santiago got a steal, while Anaya Domanski was pulling down rebounds at both baskets. Jasleen Laureano-Ray got open by losing her defender with her quick footwork. Carolyn Skrha added another basket after the half. Jessalyn Mallett forced a jump ball, while Janali Serrano-Asia got around her defender with her great ball-handling skills. Meghan Mullin-Gray stuck with her opponent and showed aggressive defensive skills, foiling her breakaway. Lucy Garland was not afraid to steal the ball and return it to the Wolves. Ava Alicea was aggressive under the basket and snatching rebounds as well as forcing jump balls. Kenadi Marshall played against her tall defender by using a strong jump and swipe motion to move the ball out of her reach.

Even though this game won't count in our win column, the entire team contributed in this game. I am proud of the way that this team rallies around one another, commits to putting their best on the court, and encourages one other to be their best. This team is a blast! More quarters! We're ready!

December 15, 2019 Game Recap

They were at it again. Those spunky, sprightly ladies took the floor with energy and joy once again.  Kennedy Collier made some clean steals, Delilah Santiago snagged a rebound and you couldn't looked towards the basket without seeing Kenadi Marshall's arms in the air ready to pull down a rebound.  Carolyn Skrha contributed the baskets and donated a bit of blood on the court, but was ready to play by the next quarter. Janali Serrano-Asia played her first game with speed. Ava Alicea and Anaya Domanski were aggressive on defense. Meghan Mullin-Gray let no one intimidate her. Lucy Garland, Nevaeh Lugo and Jasleen Laureeno-Ray worked hard to get open.

Blood, sweat and no tears.  That makes for a great game.

December 9, 2019 Game Recap

The 3/4th Girls team came out with great attitudes on Sunday against St. Bernadette.

Every time they came off the bench, they were ready to play.  The tip-off was tapped by Anaya Domanski to Ava Alicea. Throughout the game, Kenadi Marshall used her body to block the defenders from the ball. Carolyn Skrha was aggressive on rebounding. Meghan Mullin-Gray had a sweet steal to take it down the court. Delilah Santiago, Lucy Garland, and Jasleen Laureano-Ray kept the energy up and moved swiftly down the court, encouraging others when on and off the bench.  Kenadi Collier and Neveah Lugo were the scorers of the day.

They may not have won the game, but these athletes were in it together until the end. Character is forged in games where we learn the most.  And these girls are ready to take the lessons of this game and get to work at practice this week.  I can't wait to see where their energy and attitudes take them this year!

2019-2020 CYO Basketball Season

The 2019-2020 CYO Basketball season is underway! This year will feature well over a hundred participants with seven boys teams and 4 girls teams from 3rd to 8th grade. Games are played at a variety of sites throughout the diocese as well as at our very own UCS McBride Family Gymnasium!

It is wonderful to see our returning players from last year as well as some new faces this year on the court. Congratulations to Coach Manco's 6th level girls and the boys in 3rd, 5th, and Coach Dave's 6th level team for posting wins in the first couple weeks of the season!

Best of luck to all the UCS Wolves teams on a safe and successful season!

Go Wolves!
